History

Baroque came about in Rome and was a signifier of a new era, a new found confidence and exuberance.

The style became well known for its embellishment, vigour, emotion and self confident rhetoric.

Religion still played a large role in the art, though it was more a celebration of spirituality, vibrant and passionate.

The style still maintained the portrayal of societal hierarchy.

Though elaborate and over indulgent the style emphasised symmetry and order.

The sciences began to take hold in society. With telescopes and microscopes in common use the world was gripped by the concept of a microscopic world and a galaxy of other worlds.
